With my new computer I got a Samsung Syncmaster 2220wm monitor. Before this I had a small 17' LCD. The performance in games and other things I have noticed has been astounding. One of the best features is that I can now network with my Xbox 360. This means that I can stream video, music and pictures between the 2. Unfortunately only one of my GFX cards has arrived so I have to play my Crysis demo on medium :O. With my new computer I decided to switch to Vista my experience with vista was minimal and I'd heard some bad things about it. Overall my opinion on Vista is that it's performed pretty good so far. Nothing major to complain about, I don't really mind when it asks me about stuff although; sometimes it does slow stuff or something =O. I'm thinking of disabling the Windows Firewall and just going with AVG. But I am unsure because I don't know very much about Vista and it's security.

As for it asking you about installing things, that's the User Account Control, which is turned on or off via Control Panel>Users>Account Management. It is good, if you download a lot of programs of dubious origins, but usually it's a PITA, and I'd not doubt that a good number of executable viruses would circumvent it anyway.
Vista is, in my experiance, as secure as the user. I've not had a virus on my XP box for as long as I can remember (And I don't shy away from downloading things) and since I've run vista on the laptop (~six months, various versions, using Ultimate at the moment) I've not had a virus on that either, using AVG free edition (I'm not about to screw up a nice legal license for AVG) and Outpost. So I suppose it depends on your downloading tendancies.
My biggest problem with Vista is the system hogging it does. It claims to disable a lot of the crap when running full screen apps (IE: Games), but I still find myself losing 15-20 FPS in Vista over XP. That was using a pair of DX9 cards, and a DX9 game, so it shouldn't have been too much of a DX10 issue.
Other than that, I don't really have an issue with Vista that's not something I can't sort out with settings tweaks. I'd recommend setting it to Best Performance, but that makes it look so horrible the payoff is seriously not worth it.
Keep your eyes peeled for the average gamers.
Nothing's broken, it's just functioning differently.
