Recently I've been looking at the things in Eve online and Star Trek online and they have looked quite interesting. For Eve I liked the whole space economy type deal and having ships and that sort of thing. Although I am a big Star Trek fan and what I've seen so far of the Star Trek MMO has looked pretty cool. I'm still currently playing WoW, but it doesn't consume nearly as much of my time as when I was raiding. I was playing Ogame which is browser based and very slow, I found it was moderately entertaining but you could only play it for like 5minutes before having to wait several hours for something to complete. I knew someone who played Eve online, enjoyed the experience but doesn't really play it anymore.

Perpetual folded, is in the middle of law-suits, most of the STO team went to Cryptic. Bethesda still owns the rights to the Star Trek franchise but has stated publicly that they have no intention of pursuing an MMO.
In answer to your question, in the end (if it happens) STO and EVE will be completely different games.
Their goals are completely different.
